Too $hort is jumping into the EDM scene, and Diplo is the man helping him make the leap.
Sources close to the legendary rapper told TMZ that $hort has always been a fan of electronic music. Diplo has spent years mentoring him and helping him break into the genre, and the two have performed together at Stagecoach over the years.
Diplo was reportedly waiting for the right track to make their crossover official, and he found it with Nigerian rapper and singer Kah-Lo. The result is “Money Calling,” a new collaboration slated to appear on Diplo’s upcoming album.
They didn’t debut it quietly, either. Too $hort performed the song for the first time Sunday at Diplo’s Run Club event in San Francisco, where a whopping 20,000 people turned up to run with the DJ.
The track is already generating major buzz, and sources say Too $hort isn’t leaving hip-hop behind but is excited about this new adventure in EDM.
Too $hort told TMZ that he’s been working with Diplo for a few years, doing shows and getting to know him, and that he knew they’d come up with something crazy once they cooked up music together. He says that’s exactly what they got with “Money Calling.”
He’s set to headline Escape, a two-day EDM festival in San Bernardino on Halloween, sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in electronic music while testing out more of his crossover sound.
With this kind of chemistry between them, a full collaborative album would be one heck of a next move.
