September 30, 2024 All 7 Marvel Actors Confirmed to Appear In James Gunn’s Superman Movie

All 7 Marvel Actors Confirmed to Appear In James Gunn’s Superman Movie

After taking on his role running the DCU with Peter Safran, it became clear that James Gunn would likely not be the only person to work with both Marvel and DC movie franchises.

This is already coming true, as is particularly evident when looking at the cast for DC’s upcoming Superman movie. In fact, there are seven actors with roles in Superman who have previously appeared in Marvel movies.
Many of them worked with Gunn in various Guardians of the Galaxy projects, but that is not the case for all seven.

Superman will be the first movie of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU franchise, and it is set to feature at least seven actors who have also had roles in Marvel movies.

Isabela Merced - Hawkgirl

Isabela Merced portrayed Anya Corazon in the 2024 film Madame Web. Anya was one of the three girls that Cassie tries to save in the movie, and she briefly appears in a superhero suit. The film received poor reviews and was not successful at the box office, but Merced isn’t done with superhero roles yet.

Merced is set to play Hawkgirl in Superman, specifically taking on the role of Kendra Saunders. While Kendra is not the original Hawkgirl, she has gained attention recently due to her appearance in the Arrowverse (portrayed by Ciara Renée) and in her own Dawn of DC solo comic by Jadzia Axelrod and Amancay Nahuelpan.

Nathan Fillion - Guy Gardner

Nathan Fillion played minor roles in both Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In the first movie, he played a Blue Alien Prisoner who tried to hurt Peter Quill before Groot stepped in and turned the tables on him. In the third Guardians movie, Fillion appeared as Master Karja, a leader on the Orgoscope.
Fillion will play the Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the upcoming Superman movie. With his quips, brash and obnoxious attitude, and ability to be taken down by Batman with just one iconic punch, Guy is one of those characters people tend to absolutely love or absolutely hate.

Edi Gathegi - Mr. Terrific

Edi Gathegi portrayed Darwin in X-Men: First Class, and his character is often cited as one of the most perplexing decisions made in the Fox Marvel movies.
In the comics, Darwin’s primary power is the inability to die. Regardless of what happens to him, he adapts as necessary to survive. However, this character, who cannot be killed, was killed off in X-Men: First Class.

Gathegi’s next superhero role is as Mr. Terrific, specifically as Michael Holt, the second person to assume the mantle. He does not possess powers, but he utilizes T-spheres, which grant him a wide range of abilities, including flight and invincibility from technology, among many others. An adaptation of the character named Curtis Holt appeared in the Arrowverse, played by Echo Kellum.

Nicholas Hoult - Lex Luthor

Nicholas Hoult portrayed Beast in several Fox X-Men movies, taking on the role of Hank McCoy in X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix. Although Hank possesses mutant powers, his blue, animalistic appearance was the result of a serum he later injected into himself.
Hoult is set to play the main antagonist, Lex Luthor, in the upcoming movie Superman. Lex Luthor is known as Superman’s arch-enemy and is a wealthy, malevolent genius who utilizes technology and fear-mongering in an attempt to destroy the hero. He despises Superman for being an alien and consistently tries to present himself as a protector of humanity, despite embodying some of humanity’s worst traits.

Mikaela Hoover - Cat Grant

Mikaela Hoover played two roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. She appeared as Nova Prime’s Assistant in the first Guardians movie but had a far more prominent role as Floor in the third movie. Hoover did both the motion capture and voice work for the bunny who named herself Floor because she was on the floor.

Hoover is set to play Cat Grant in Superman. Many fans may be familiar with the version of Cat from the Arrowverse (played by Calista Flockhart) who runs her own magazine, but in DC comics, she is usually a reporter for the Daily Planet.

With the Daily Planet seemingly playing a large role in Gunn’s Superman movie, it is more than likely this is the version of the character Hoover will play.

Sean Gunn - Maxwell Lord

Sean Gunn has appeared in several of James Gunn’s movies, including as Kraglin in all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Sean Gunn has also done motion capture work for various characters in the Guardians franchise, including Young Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Sean Gunn is set to voice a character in the animated Creature Commandos show, which is the debut project of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. In the show Superman, he will play Maxwell Lord, an evil business mogul who eventually acquires mind control powers. Sean Gunn told The Wrap that even though Maxwell Lord has appeared in live-action before, this version will not take inspiration from those live-action adaptations. Instead, he is using “written materials” as one point of reference for his take.

Frank Grillo - Rick Flag Sr.

Frank Grillo portrayed Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and is the only actor on this list who has been in the MCU but not in a film directed by James Gunn. He played Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Endgame.

Similar to Sean Gunn, Grillo will be lending his voice to a character in Creature Commandos before appearing in Superman.

However, unlike Sean Gunn, Grillo will be portraying the same character (Rick Flag Sr.) in both animation and live-action. In the comics, Rick Flag Sr. has been a leader of the Suicide Squadron and is also the father of Rick Flag Jr.

Honorable Mentions

Skyler Gisondo is the eighth actor in Gunn’s Superman movie to have also appeared in a Marvel movie, as he played Gwen Stacy’s brother Howard in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, his role in those movies is extremely minimal. Despite this, Gisondo will be playing Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen in Superman. As Clark Kent’s best friend, Jimmy is one of the most prominent supporting characters in Superman comics. Most recently, Alan Tudyk, who has already been cast as the voice of the radiation-manipulating baddie Doctor Phosphorus in Creature Commandos, was reported to be part of the cast of Superman. Tudyk voiced Alistair Krei in the Marvel-adapted Big Hero 6 Disney animated film before cameoing in Deadpool 2 as a redneck who gets tasered by Josh Brolin’s Cable.

Several actors who worked on the Guardians of the Galaxy movies with Gunn have expressed interest in joining the DCU. Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, and Pom Klementieff are open to (if not already planning on) joining. Although they haven’t provided details about their potential roles, they have all indicated interest in some capacity.

Superman will be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.

September 27, 2024 Thunderbolts* May Answer An 8-Year-Old MCU Mystery

Thunderbolts* May Answer An 8-Year-Old MCU Mystery

Thunderbolts* is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025. It will introduce a new superhero team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie will bring together various characters from the franchise, such as Yelena Belova (played by Florence Pugh), the Winter Soldier (played by Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (played by David Harbour), Ghost (played by Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (played by Olga Kurylenko), and the U.S. Agent (played by John Walker). This film will also serve as the conclusion to Phase 5, setting up the last part of the Multiverse Saga.
The first trailer for Thunderbolts* provides fresh insight into the film’s plot, showing how each of the mentioned characters is recruited by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus) for a suicide mission. After surviving the mission, the newly formed Thunderbolts confront Val in a familiar-looking location. Although the specific location is not mentioned in the trailer, it could potentially solve a long-standing mystery in the MCU. Eight years after the plot point was first introduced, Thunderbolts* may finally reveal who bought Avengers Tower.

Thunderbolts* May Reveal the New Owner of Avengers Tower

Thunderbolts* May Answer An 8-Year-Old MCU Mystery

There are various theories about who purchased Avengers Tower in the MCU. Rumored buyers range from the Fantastic Four to Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin. This mystery has intrigued fans since Spider-Man: Homecoming revealed that Tony Stark sold the building in 2017. However, it’s possible that Val is the new owner of the former Avengers Tower. The first trailer for Thunderbolts* shows the team confronting Val in a New York City skyscraper, the interior of which bears a striking resemblance to the refurbished Avengers Tower, now under Val’s control.

None of the members of the Thunderbolts team had ever been to Avengers Tower before. Even Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, who was active during the time the Avengers operated out of their New York City skyscraper, wouldn’t have been welcome there, as he was still working for Hydra at the time. While the team members would certainly recognize the building as the former Avengers Tower, none of them would have any memories there, unlike the original Avengers who used it as their headquarters for about four years.

What Val Owning Avengers Tower Means for the MCU

It is possible that Val could be the main villain of Thunderbolts. However, many theories suggest that she could be working with someone else who could be a much bigger antagonist in the MCU. If Val now works out of the former Avengers Tower, then whoever she is working with has access to the building as well. Val’s partner could be revealed to be Harrison Ford’s President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. However, with his role in Captain America: Brave New World taking place several months before Thunderbolts, it would make more sense if her employer was someone else entirely.

The MCU may be setting the stage for the debut of Norman Osborn, also known as the Green Goblin, who could be Val’s mystery employer. In the comics, Norman takes control of Avengers Tower as the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D., renaming it H.A.M.M.E.R., as part of the Dark Reign storyline. In this storyline, Norman disbands the Avengers and relocates the Thunderbolts, a team under his full control, to the tower. There, the Thunderbolts transform into what is later known as the Dark Avengers. It’s possible that the MCU’s Thunderbolts will be based in Avengers Tower in the future, and they might even evolve into the Dark Avengers in upcoming movies. If Norman Osborn and his associates now own Avengers Tower, it could be a sign that the MCU plans to incorporate the Dark Reign storyline in future projects. If he is introduced in Thunderbolts, fans can expect to see more of Osborn in films such as Spider-Man 4 and Armor Wars.

Why It Took So Long to Reveal Avengers Tower's New Owner

It’s been an exciting wait for fans to finally get the answer to the Avengers Tower mystery. However, it’s taken the MCU way too long to wrap up this storyline. Avengers Tower was sold back in the Phase 3 film Spider-Man: Homecoming, with almost no new clues about its new owner in the past seven years. By the time Thunderbolts hits theaters, it will have been almost eight years since this mystery was introduced, making it one of the longest and most frustrating waits for MCU fans. However, it’s likely that the MCU never intended to wait this long to reveal the new owner of Avengers Tower.

With the numerous delays to upcoming MCU movies, it’s possible that the franchise intended to address the sale of Avengers Tower earlier in the Multiverse Saga. The release schedule for Marvel has been constantly changing in the last few years, making it difficult to pinpoint when a new project will be released. It’s also possible that the identity of Avengers Tower’s new owner has changed. Some theories suggested that Mr. Gryphon, a variant of Kang the Conqueror, would be revealed as the building’s new owner. However, this may have changed when the MCU decided to move away from the Kang storyline. Other theories proposed that the Fantastic Four might convert Avengers Tower into the Baxter Building.

However, the MCU may have moved away from this possibility during one of the many story changes that took place before production began on The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Val owning Avengers Tower may have been a very late addition to Thunderbolts, but it could have significant implications for the team’s future in the MCU.

Who Is Mephisto In Agatha All Along? MCU Reveal Explained

Mephisto was officially revealed in the MCU in “Agatha All Along” Episode 3 after years of speculation about his debut. In the world of Marvel Comics, Mephisto essentially serves as the devil and has long been rumored to join the on-screen franchise in some form. This speculation dates back to the days of “Wandavision” when Mephisto became a popular name for speculating about who might have been behind Wanda’s spell-binding plight.

Mephisto Finally Gets His MCU Reveal

Who Is Mephisto In Agatha All Along? MCU Reveal Explained

In Episode 3 of “Agatha All Along,” a Marvel Comics character, Mephisto, was revealed to exist in the MCU. The character was mentioned in a conversation between Sasheer Zamata’s Jennifer Kale and Joe Locke’s mysterious Teen. Zamata’s character, a centuries-old witch, warned the young boy about the selfish and ruthless actions of Agatha (Kathryn Hahn). Kale told the Teen to “watch your back with Agatha,” revealing to both Locke’s character and the audience that the series’ villainous witch “traded her own child for the Book of the Damned” (also known as The Darkhold).

“No one really knows what happened to him,” she continued. This is when she finally namedrops The Lord of Evil for the first time in the MCU, suggesting, “They say he might be… an agent of Mephisto.”
“No one really knows what happened to him. They say he might be dead. Others say he might be a demon or an agent of Mephisto. But hey, that is what happens when you have Agatha Harkness as your mom, right? I doubt she would recognize her own son if he showed up at her doorstep.”

The conversation ends there without any further explanation from Kale, but it opens up a whole Pandora’s box of demonic possibilities for both the series and the MCU at large.

What Does the Mephisto Name Drop Mean for Agatha?

After years of speculation about when Mephisto would officially join the MCU, fans may finally have their answer. Although the character has yet to take on any sort of corporeal form in the franchise, his name has been mentioned, meaning he is officially on the board.

The context in which his name came up is interesting. This conversation between Jennifer Kale and the yet-to-be-named Teen is a personal moment between the two and almost gives the impression that Kale may be insinuating that the Teen himself could be the long-lost son of Agatha’s.After years of speculation about when Mephisto would officially join the MCU, fans may finally have their answer. I think it would be interesting if Joe Locke’s character in the series turned out to be either an agent of Mephisto or Mephisto himself. This idea is especially intriguing considering the build-up of Joe Locke’s character in “Agatha All Along,” which led fans to believe he could be Wanda Maximoff’s son Billy. It would be a surprising twist to have the character initially assumed to be Wanda’s son, only to reveal that he is actually Agatha’s.

There have even been theories suggesting that the “M” that occasionally binds Tesn’s mouth could be connected to Mephisto. This could be a coincidence, but it may also be a hint of a potential devilish turn for the character. Whether Tesn is related to Mephisto or not, it seems like Agatha is setting itself up for a proper introduction to the iconic Marvel villain. It was previously reported that Mephisto would have a significant part in the upcoming Ironheart series. So, Agatha’s potential involvement with the character could serve as some nice narrative table-setting for that future streaming story. Agatha All Along continues to debut new episodes on Disney+ every Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET.

Marvel Got Pitched Chris Evans-Starring Disney+ Show by MCU Actor

Marvel Studios has been pitched a Steve Rogers-led Disney+ series by one of their own actors multiple times. When people think of Chris Evans, they usually remember his portrayal of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For nine consecutive years, Evans, with the help of some excellent screenwriting, brought great humanity, sensitivity, and unwavering determination to the character of Steve Rogers. Steve Rogers remains a favorite for MCU fans, and many would like to see the character again, despite his definitive departure in Avengers: Endgame.

Ross Marquand Wants a Captain America Series

Marvel Got Pitched Chris Evans-Starring Disney+ Show by MCU Actor

On Friday, September 20, at Edmonton Expo in Alberta, Canada, actor Ross Marquand participated in a panel discussion about his roles in the MCU. Marquand voiced Ultron in What If…? and appeared in live-action as the Stonekeeper (an even creepier incarnation of the villainous Red Skull) in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

Amidst his time on stage, Marquand revealed that he had put forth a proposal for a Disney+ series to Marvel (via @AgentsFandom on X/Twitter). The envisioned series would delve into Steve Rogers’ intricate journey as he embarks on a mission to restore the six Infinity Stones, placing them back in their respective places across the many divergent timelines encountered in Avengers: Endgame.

Marquand has previously mentioned his pitch for a Captain America-focused story. He is likely eager to see it made because there would probably be a role for him in it. When Hugo Weaving, the original Red Skull actor, didn’t return for the last two Avengers movies, Ross Marquand took on the role. This suggests that if Marquand’s proposed series were to be produced, Marvel would likely cast him as the Stonekeeper once again.

Could Chris Evans Really Return as Cap?

Since Steve Rogers’ story ended in 2019, there have been requests for Chris Evans to return as the original Captain America. In fact, Deadpool & Wolverine toyed with this idea when Evans made a surprise cameo. Wade Wilson initially mistook him for Cap, only for the movie to reveal that he was actually playing the Human Torch.
It’s uncertain whether Evans will return to play Captain America again, as it depends on the story. Evans has stated that he cares a lot about the character and its legacy. To convince him to return, Marvel Studios would probably need to have a compelling storyline in place. Bringing back Steve also presents a challenge, as the MCU now has a new Captain America in Sam Wilson, who will be featured in “Captain America: Brave New World,” set to be released in 2025.

Bringing Chris Evans back too soon could risk grounding Sam’s flight before it even takes off, as Steve’s return would inevitably eclipse Wilson’s own journey.
No matter what unfolds, fans can take comfort in knowing that Steve Rogers’ Captain America had one of the most complete and well-crafted story arcs in the entire MCU so far.

And for those who still feel unsatisfied, there’s always the possibility that a different universe’s version of Rogers might appear further down the line. After all, Marvel is deep into its Multiverse Saga right now.

Thunderbolts’ Bob True Identity Revealed: Marvel’s Sentry Explained

In a recent teaser for Thunderbolts*, several fan-favorite characters from the MCU made appearances, leaving fans curious about the mysterious character named Bob. Bob was seen in a room with some of the film’s main characters, sparking speculation about his role in the story. Thunderbolts, which is set to be a sequel to Black Widow, has been highly anticipated by fans since it was announced at Disney’s D23 expo in 2022. The film will focus on a team of Marvel antiheroes, and there have been rumors about Sentry making his debut in the movie, with his apparent appearance in the teaser adding fuel to the speculation.

Who Is Bob in the Thunderbolts* Trailer?

Thunderbolts' Bob True Identity Revealed: Marvel's Sentry Explained

In the new Thunderbolts teaser, several significant in-universe revelations were unveiled, with one particularly standing out – the introduction of a new character. The teaser shows Yelena, John Walker, Ghost, and Taskmaster being sent to an undisclosed location. After demonstrating their skills in a scuffle, they realize that there is someone else in the room with them – a man in hospital scrubs who introduces himself as Bob. Although Bob’s role in the trailer is minor, he is portrayed by Lewis Pullman from Top Gun: Maverick.

In the trailer, Yelena hints that there may be more to Bob than meets the eye by commenting that “everyone [there] has done bad things.” Another scene in the trailer shows Bob standing outside surrounded by law enforcement or the military.

The state of his attire is crucial to observe—riddled with bullet holes, tattered in various manners—yet remarkably, he remains entirely unscathed. Far more telling is the moment that follows, when enforcement agents or military personnel seemingly unleash a hail of bullets upon Bob, and, to the observer’s astonishment, not a single shot leaves so much as a trace on him.

Though Bob’s presence in the trailer is fleeting, his significance is far-reaching. His role, while subtle in the few glimpses provided, hints at his forthcoming ascent as one of the most formidable figures within the MCU’s expansive universe.
The name “Bob” serves as an unassuming moniker for Robert Reynolds, a being capable of morphing into the unstoppable force known as Sentry—an entity bearing resemblance to the archetype of Superman. His strength, drawn from a serum that mirrors the effects of the super soldier formula, elevates him to an awe-inspiring status, foreshadowing the impact his character will undoubtedly have.

There have been rumors that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character Val will use a serum on Bob to create Sentry. In the comics, when Bob transforms into Sentry, he becomes a nearly unstoppable force, but he is not evil. However, he does have an alter ego called the Void, which embodies evil and is separate from his Sentry personality. It’s possible that Bob was sent to the same location as the other characters because of his actions as the Void, or because, if the rumors are true, Val created him to oppose the Thunderbolts.

How Sentry's Thunderbolts* Character Connects to the Comics

In the Thunderbolts trailer, Bob appears confused and disoriented, not knowing where he is or how he got there. He is also puzzled by the others’ claim that someone sent them. This could be attributed to Bob’s mental state when he transforms into Sentry or the Void, as depicted in the comics.

In the source material, the character initially didn’t realize that he was both a powerful hero and a devastating villain due to his split personality. At various points, he had his memories wiped to keep the Void at bay. Additionally, with the help of Doctor Strange and Reed Richards, he had the entire world forget who he was, similar to Peter Parker’s actions in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, his memories eventually began returning, leading to Sentry and the Void being at war with each other. This cycle of the Void being defeated and coming back continued until Sentry was eventually thrown into the sun, resulting in the death of both him and the Void.

In the upcoming Thunderbolts movie, it’s possible that Bob’s confusion in the trailer hints at a storyline where his memories are wiped, similar to the comics. This could lead to his inability to control his alternate personalities, Sentry and the Void, being displayed in the film. If this turns out to be true, it would lend more credibility to past rumors about a Sentry solo project being in development. Thunderbolts is set to be released in theaters on May 2, 2025.

Robert Downey Jr. Confirmed to Return In 4 Upcoming Marvel Projects

Robert Downey Jr. has multiple new MCU projects in the works, portraying both Doctor Doom and Iron Man. At the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, Downey surprised fans by revealing his return as Doctor Doom. His role as this iconic comic book villain is expected to be significant in future Marvel Studios films. Additionally, confirmed Marvel projects indicate that he may not have completely retired his original superhero role as Tony Stark.

Robert Downey Jr.'s 4 Upcoming Marvel Projects

Avengers: Doomsday

Robert Downey Jr. Confirmed to Return In 4 Upcoming Marvel Projects

At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios confirmed that Avengers 5, previously known as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, is now titled Avengers: Doomsday. Robert Downey Jr. is set to return as the Fantastic Four’s formidable foe, Doctor Doom. The movie is scheduled to be released on May 1, 2026, and will be directed by the Russo Brothers. Little is known about the story for Avengers: Doomsday at this time.

It seems that Downey’s Doom will be replacing Jonathan Majors’ Kang as the main villain in the Multiverse Saga. This suggests that there will be a strong focus on Victor Von Doom, the ruler of the fictional European country of Latveria, and his connection to the Fantastic Four and the Multiverse. Audiences are also anticipating that Doomsday will pave the way for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Avengers: Secret Wars

Scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027, and directed by the Russo Brothers, RDJ’s Doom is set to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. Taking inspiration from the comic book crossover of the same name, details about Secret Wars are limited, but it is anticipated to feature various MCU heroes and villains in a significant multiversal showdown. RDJ’s return as a multiversal adversary adds an emotional aspect to Secret Wars, as he is expected to encounter Earth-616 heroes who have memories of Tony Stark.

Avengers Infinity Defense

After Robert Downey Jr. announced his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Disney and Marvel Studios revealed new details at D23 about the King Thanos Multiverse ride coming to the Avengers Campus at the Disneyland Resort.
Now officially titled Avengers Infinity Defense, the ride will feature high-tech vehicles designed to travel “between worlds and even realities – on planet Earth and beyond” in order to stop a Thanos variant.

The vehicles will be a combination of Xandarian jump points, Wakandan tech, and Tony Stark’s Avengers: Endgame time suits. Fans will visit iconic MCU locations like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City and battle alongside familiar (and Multiversal) MCU characters.

Disney’s theme park universe exists as a “Variant of the main MCU timeline,” where Thanos’ snap never happened. This means that characters like Stark’s Iron Man can coexist with Multiverse Saga heroes such as Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, and Sam Wilson’s Captain America.

Concept art for the ride, both old and new, has featured Stark’s Iron Man. Additionally, news of another Avengers Campus attraction has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr.’s performance will be part of the experience.

Stark Flight Lab

At D23, Disney and Marvel Studios amazed guests by promoting a new ride for Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure. The ride, titled Stark Flight Lab, features Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Tony Stark. It is designed to resemble a lab test station where fans board two-person pods attached to a robot arm, similar to Tony’s DUM-E robotic, to experience a simulation of flight. The Disney Parks Blog specifically noted that “Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as Tony Stark” not only for Stark Flight Lab but also “attractions in the land,” confirming his presence in Avengers Infinity Defense.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Fifth MCU Project?

“After being cast in Avengers: Doomsday, there is speculation about whether Robert Downey Jr. will also appear in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Since Doom is a significant villain in the Fantastic Four’s storyline, it would make sense for RDJ’s Latverian tyrant to be present. However, since The Fantastic Four is not an origin story, Doom and the Fantastic Family may not necessarily be working together at this point in their respective journeys.”

The teaser footage for “First Steps” shown at Comic-Con confirmed that Galactus will be featured in the first “Fantastic Four” film in the MCU, with the baddie being voiced by Ralph Ineson. When asked if Doctor Doom will appear in his solo film, director Matt Shakman told ComicBook that he “can’t say anything” about Downey’s inclusion in the cast. Since that wasn’t a denial, the speculation is ongoing and likely to continue.

If RDJ is involved with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, audiences could see the Iron Man actor take on his second MCU role as early as July 25, 2025. Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. As for Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab, their opening dates are yet to be announced. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to debut on July 25, 2025.

September 19, 2024 Marvel Studios Planning Tom Holland’s Return In Non-Spider-Man Movies (Report)

Marvel Studios Planning Tom Holland’s Return In Non-Spider-Man Movies (Report)

A new report suggests that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are potentially close to reaching a deal that would bring Tom Holland’s Spider-Man back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a non-Spider-Man movie. By the end of 2024, it will have been over three years since the release of Holland’s last Spider-Man movie, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” making it the longest gap between Holland-led Spider-Man movies since he took on the role.

It seems like the long wait for another Spider-Man movie may finally be over. Recent news suggests that Marvel Studios is gearing up for a fourth MCU Spider-Man film, with Destin Daniel Cretton set to take on directing duties.

A New Spider-Man Deal May Be Close

Marvel Studios Planning Tom Holland's Return In Non-Spider-Man Movies (Report)

It seems that Marvel Studios is working to bring Tom Holland back to the MCU for more appearances beyond the upcoming Spider-Man 4. Insider Daniel Richtman mentioned on his Patreon that sources have informed him about ongoing negotiations between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios for a new deal that would allow Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to appear in multiple MCU movies.

The on-screen appearances mentioned would be in addition to the solo Spider-Man films that the studios have planned. This is similar to Holland’s roles in movies like Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Additionally, as a part of this reported deal, Richtman wrote that it would also involve Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige overseeing all of Holland’s solo Spider-Man movies.

This should alleviate concerns that Sony would have more creative control over the mainline Spider-Man films after the Jon Watts trilogy. It also alleviates concerns that Marvel Studios would no longer be able to use Holland’s character in their on-screen universe, especially outside of Sony’s villain-centric Spider-Man Universe.

Where Could Spider-Man Show Up?

The news is likely to spark speculation among MCU fans. There has been a lot of discussion about Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man film, but many haven’t considered the character’s future beyond that.

It’s likely that Marvel Studios will want to use Holland’s Spider-Man in some of its upcoming projects in the next few years. The franchise has lost some major characters in the last five years (specifically Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark and Chris Evans’ Captain America), so the studio is probably looking for its next A-list talent to lead the franchise into its new era.

With two Avengers films planned for Marvel (Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars), it seems likely that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will play a significant role in this new version of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Apart from the mainline Avengers movies, Holland is also expected to appear in the Young Avengers project that has been hinted at by the studio.

In last year’s “The Marvels,” Iman Vellani’s Kamala Kahn hints at recruiting Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, suggesting that the MCU may be setting the stage for the appearance of the super-powered teenage team on-screen in the near future. When the dominoes start to fall for the “Young Avengers,” it’s likely that a talent like Holland’s Spider-Man would be a top choice to lead such a squad. However, it’s important to note that the “Young Avengers” project is still just a rumor, so Holland’s involvement is not confirmed.

At this point, the character is most likely to appear in Spider-Man 4, reportedly set to start filming sometime next year. Spider-Man 4 has no official release date.

Marvel Studios’ Riskiest 2025 Movie Gets Positive Test Screening Update

In 2025, Marvel Studios is set to release several highly anticipated movies, following the success of “Deadpool & Wolverine” in 2024. The upcoming films include “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Thunderbolts*,” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Fans are eagerly awaiting updates, including a positive test screening review from one of the stars and a first look at Pedro Pascal from the set of “The Fantastic Four.” Trailers for “Captain America 4” are also expected to generate excitement for the franchise.

Positive Tests Screenings from 2025 Marvel Studios Movie

Marvel Studios' Riskiest 2025 Movie Gets Positive Test Screening Update

Thunderbolts* star David Harbour provided fans with an update on the status of his 2025 Marvel movie after internal test screenings were finished. The film presents a significant risk for Marvel Studios, as it is one of the few team-up franchises outside of the Avengers movies. The Marvels demonstrated how challenging it can be to attract an audience when crossing over several franchises, resulting in it becoming the MCU’s biggest box office bomb ever.

“It is the only MCU film debuting next year without a pre-established franchise preceding it, such as Captain America: Brave New World and Fantastic Four. Additionally, it may be challenging to market a superhero movie led by a group of misfits to general audiences, although it has been successful for films like Guardians of the Galaxy.”

The actor playing Red Guardian has received positive feedback about the upcoming film. In an interview with ComicBook, Harbour explained that he doesn’t look outside for critiques because viewers form quick opinions about movies. He encouraged fans to give movies like Thunderbolts a chance before writing them off:

Making a movie, you can’t really look outside for critiques because everybody, everybody sees the poster and they have an opinion. You’re like, ‘just watch the two-hour movie and if you still hate it. Great. Love it? Great.’ But, like, you’ve got to give us a chance. I think all the speculation in the world is like my fantasies about dying or what. I mean, it’s like you can fantasize about horrific things or whatever until you actually see the thing.”

He proudly shared his excitement for the new MCU movie, stating that it was “playing well internally” in test screenings and would “really surprise people:”

“I’m very proud of this movie, what we shot. I hear it’s playing well internally and I’m excited for people to see it. I think it’s going to really surprise people. I think people have seen from the trailer, from the shots. I think it’s a pretty cool direction of the MCU’s sort of making now. And I’m excited to be a part of that.”

Although Thunderbolts* had a trailer premiere exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, fans have not seen any official footage or marketing for the film yet.

Will Thunderbolts* Be a Hit for the MCU?

Thunderbolts* is an important movie for the MCU, as it is set to be the final film of Phase 5, scheduled for release in May 2025. David Harbour appears to be confident about its performance, especially since this will be his second MCU movie after 2021’s Black Widow.

This upcoming movie will be the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to center around a group of villains or antiheroes. It will also address the aftermath of several past MCU projects, adding a new level of connectivity to the overall franchise storyline.

Combine these elements with Florence Pugh’s burgeoning star power as Yelena Belova, Lewis Pullman’s debut as the formidable Sentry, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ ongoing portrayal as the scheming Val, and there is much to anticipate.

The first exclusive trailer for “Thunderbolts*” gave fans numerous exciting updates, although it will likely be a few weeks or months until anything is revealed publicly. Part of that mystery lies in the title itself, as fans wonder what in the world the asterisk is supposed to mean. However, after “Thunderbolts*” had its release date switched with “Fantastic Four” (moving it up by almost three months), Marvel appears confident in what it will deliver behind this team. “Thunderbolts*” is set to arrive in theaters on May 2, 2025.

Scarlet Witch Movie Rumors Get Official Response from Marvel Studios Producer

“After Elizabeth Olsen’s leading role in her first solo MCU project, the Phase 4 streaming series WandaVision, fans have been clamoring for a potential MCU Scarlet Witch movie. A top producer at Marvel Studios recently hinted that this could be on the horizon.”

Even after Wanda Maximoff met her end in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the requests for a Scarlet Witch solo movie continue to pour in. Olsen’s portrayal of Wanda Maximoff remains one of the most popular characters in the Multiverse Saga, making her return a top priority for countless fans.

MCU Producer Addresses Scarlet Witch Movie

At the world premiere event for Marvel Studios’ Agatha All Along, Jac Schaeffer, an MCU writer/producer who has been working at Marvel Studios for the last three years under an overall deal, shared the studio’s current stance on making a Scarlet Witch movie.

In an interview with Variety, Schaeffer was asked when the Scarlet Witch solo movie would start shooting. In response, she expressed her hope for a Scarlet Witch movie to happen, as fans are eager for more Wanda Maximoff:

“I mean, I’m just here hoping for a Scarlet Witch movie, right? We all want Wanda, so fingers crossed that’s a thing that happens.”

Pondering whether it would happen, the Marvel creative couldn’t respond. She explained that she was deeply focused on her work with Agatha and couldn’t quite see through the trees:

“I don’t know! I’m in witchy Agatha-land right now, and I can’t quite see through the trees, but we’re hoping.”

She acknowledged that it was not something she could discuss with the press, stating, “Not at the moment!”

Recently, fans have noticed a listing in Production Weekly claiming that there is a Scarlet Witch movie in development. The movie reportedly features Elizabeth Olsen as the lead actress and Schaeffer as the writer. It is listed for a 2026 release, although it is unclear how reliable this information is.

Will There Be a Scarlet Witch Movie?

As of now, aside from the rumors mentioned earlier, there are no indications that a Scarlet Witch movie is actively being developed by Marvel Studios. Additionally, there has been no indication of when Wanda will return after her death in Doctor Strange 2.

Although Elizabeth Olsen has expressed uncertainty about her future with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), she has openly discussed the likelihood of her returning to the franchise in the near future. There have also been rumors about her appearing in “Agatha All Along,” which is said to be a spin-off of “WandaVision.”

If Scarlet Witch were to have her own movie, fans would undoubtedly be excited to see it come to life. However, the potential storyline and release date are still a mystery. It’s speculated that “WandaVision” and “Agatha All Along” are part of a trilogy leading up to the upcoming “Vision” series, which may delve into Wanda’s character development. Depending on the events of the series, fans may get a better idea of where Scarlet Witch stands in the MCU after the Mount Wundagore events.

After Wanda was shown to be dead in the promo material for Agatha All Along, questions remain about how she could come back to life. However, if her solo movie becomes a reality, Marvel and its fans seem ready to bring back one of the franchise’s most powerful characters.

All of Elizabeth Olsen’s appearances as the Scarlet Witch in the MCU are available to stream on Disney+. Agatha All Along will debut with a two-episode premiere on Wednesday, September 18th.
